Black Skimmers and Friend

12 x 12, Oil on Linen

When I was in coastal North Carolina this past summer and ran across these very strange but wonderful birds called Black Skimmers.  They nest along with Lesser Terns in the sand and must be protected from people and their furry friends by roping off their mating sites.  Since I love painting birds, I decided to paint a grouping of them that included a friend, a royal Tern.  This painting was recently sold at Mattie King Davis Gallery, Beaufort, NC.

LYNDA HARRIS graduated from NC State University with a Master’s in Landscape Architecture and has spent the last 30 years designing urban and commercial spaces, urban parks, and residential hardscapes and gardens. Although she drew with pen and rendered detailed landscape drawings and elevations with markers and pastel pencils, she never translated her talent into painting.

After retiring Lynda decided to fulfill her childhood dream and turn her talents to art. Her passion for design and gardening has led to painting with a focus on contemporary impressionist landscapes. Lynda’s love of nature and animals led her to paint birds and incorporate animals into her paintings. Capturing light with paint is an going creative challenge. Lynda’s primary media is oil.

She has a permanent exhibition at 311 Gallery, 311 W Martin St., Raleigh, NC and exhibits at the Mattie King Davis Gallery in Beaufort, NC.
